City of Clay

Written in the fall of 2015. Performed by Ben Mapes, Arlo Shultis, Matt Overbay and Cody Criswell.

City of Clay is the first percussion quartet I’ve written. The piece oscillates between diaphanous, shimmering colors and energetic, pulsating rhythms. The juxtaposition of these two ideas creates a sort of primal conflict between the spirit and the flesh.
